Ponyville Police Headquarters/Lane's Office (Public; 0/4)
« on: April 29, 2012, 03:51:11 PM »

((PPHQ for short. At first I was going to have it be unlimited but then I realized that I don't want to be barraged by a lot of people. The limit is four and there's no one here currently other than Lane and his chief))

The Ponyville Police Headquarters, or PPHQ for short, was actually a relatively small building honestly. The main entrance lead directly to where you could talk to the many police ponies that were there and there were several small rooms at the back of the building where they kept most of the evidence they found. There were only two rooms for interrogating ponies or suspects to the left of the main area of the headquarters. However two particular ponies received their own office. The Chief of Police at PPHQ, and Lane Logikin's cheif, Cole Gotem and Lane Logikin himself.

The Chief of Police's office was at the far back of the headquarters next to one of storage areas for evidence. Lane's office was exactly to the right of the headquarters when you entered the headquarters. These two offices had nameplates on the doors with their names and occupations so any ponies coming into the headquarters could find it easily without having to ask anypony.

Lane was sitting in his office simply looking through files. Not much happened honestly and he didn't get many cases to work on. Lane often found himself bored. He didn't even care if somepony just came into his office and complained and stated their problems to him. He knew someponies just needed someone to listen to them and that would make them feel a lot better for the most part, which Lane did quite well. Of course, there were also ponies that would come in and need help resolving a specific issue or whatever issue they had, which Lane would also do to the best of his abilities as well.

Nothing was going on, but Lane was used to that at this point. There really wasn't any reason for him to be looking through files anyway. It just gave him something to do to pass the time honestly.

The PPHQ was always open to everypony, and Lane would drop whatever he was doing immediately to help anypony that came in and needed anything.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

((I've posted what Lane Logikin's chief, Cole Gotem, looks like. I actually created this on Pony Creator quite a long time ago it seems lol. Consider him an NPC under my control unless otherwise stated.))

~ Ponyville Police Headquarters; Year 10 (present day) ~

L.G. tumbled through the front doors of the station, a police pony closely behind her with his front hoof extended forward. It had been a less than successful day for the problem solver, whose latest exploits had brought her to Ponyville on the flank of Chuck Ponzy, a con artist she'd managed to chase out of Appleoosa a few months ago.

"You didn't have to push," she snapped, shaking her head to move a stray bit of red mane out of her face. "I know how doors work, Slim."

"Please stop calling me that, miss," the officer said with great exasperation. "My name is--"

"Yeah, yeah, I heard you," the grey mare rose to her hooves. "Lighten up, Slim. A little smile can go a long way, you know?"

The officer smacked his forehead. "Miss, please just have a seat while we figure out what to do with you."

"Am I being arrested?" L.G. asked. "Because if I am, I'd like to know why."

"You assaulted a unicorn in the middle of town in broad daylight!" the officer shouted. "Five witnesses saw you kick him into a fruit stand before chasing him down the street for five minutes!"

L.G. laughed. "Five minutes? Really? I must be losing my touch because nobody's ever kept me off of their tail for that long!"

"This is no laughing matter, ma'am." The officer walked to the front desk, taking a pen in his mouth before signing a form.

"Hey, last time I checked it wasn't illegal to kick a criminal!" L.G. replied. "I've been chasing him around for months now. You think I want to be in this town? It's way too close to Canterlot for my tastes. If anything you should have arrested him! It's not like I did anything wrong beyond being a concerned citizen."

"And throwing a plate at my head?" the officer asked. "I'm lucky you missed."

"I didn't 'miss'. I wasn't even trying to hit you. How else was I supposed to keep you off my back?"

"Well you clearly didn't do a very good job at it."

L.G. squinted. "You know, it's not as funny when you do it." This was going to be a long day.

((Officer is an NPC that I used to get L.G. in the station. He won't be that important as this progresses, assuming I don't bone this up too badly. If you're feeling ambitious you can make up a name for him.))

((No thank you. I'm not that great at thinking up pony names.))

Lane heard a commotion outside of his office. He dropped the file he was looking at and walked toward the door to his office and opened it slightly so he could overhear what was going on.

L.G. squinted. "You know, it's not as funny when you do it." This was going to be a long day.

At this point, Lane flat out slightly kicked the door to his office, slamming it against the wall to sort of 'announce' his presence to the detective that had brought this pony Lane had never saw or met before in his life into the PPHQ.

"Mind explaining what all of this is about, if you don't mind?" asked Lane hoping the other detective would explain to him what the situation was so Lane could a least get a better understanding of why this detective had arrested this pony and brought him into the station.

L.G. appraised this new pony. She'd been to Ponyville once or twice, but she had never seen him before. "He doesn't look like he gets out much," she thought, smiling. "Maybe I can talk him into letting me off with a warning."

"Ours was a brief and torrid affair," L.G. said dramatically. "Locked in a tender embrace, we--"

"Now cut that out, you," the officer interrupted. "Sir, I was about to stop by Sugarcube Corner on my patrol route as I do every day when I heard an altercation. Namely, this mare had shouted something quite hateful at a unicorn tourist before bucking him as hard as she could, sending him into a fruit stand."

L.G. looked satisfied. "He howled like a sick owlbear when that melon met his head."

"You see what I have to work with here!?" the officer shouted. "She then proceeded to run from the authorities in pursuit of the unicorn in a chase that lasted five minutes before she threw a lunch dish at my head. At that point I arrested her and she hasn't shut up since."

L.G. rolled her eyes. "I notice you left out the part where I told you to arrest that unicorn." She turned to Lane and looked him in the eye, an earnest expression on her face. "Tell Slim here to beat it and I'll explain what really happened."

The first thing Lane did was look at the detained pony and talked to her.

"It doesn't matter what your reasons are. You can't just insult somepony, assault them, then chase them down. That's what police ponies are for. You can't take justice into your own hooves. You should know better" remarked Lane.

Lane then looked at the detective and responded to him

"I see. Thank you for that information. I completely understand why you did that. However, please don't take this the wrong way, but, it's important to understand all of the facts before doing anything. In this case, arresting somepony before figuring out all possible information to determine what truly happened. So, if you don't mind, I'd like hearing this ponies side of the story. Is that alright with you?" asked Lane.

The officer nodded his head. "Yes sir. I'll file the report while you talk," he said before taking his leave.

"Buh bye!" L.G. chirped. "I'll be sure to write!" She sighed and pretended to wipe a tear from her eye. "They grow up so fast, don't they?"

Turning her attention to the detective, she responded to his inquiries. "First of all, I have every right to take this matter into my own hooves. That guy was my problem. The ponies of Appleoosa asked me to... Never mind. My name's Looking Glass, at least it is now. Before I tell you anything about this I want to know who you are and whether or not I can trust you."

Lane now became suspicious of L.G. as she was already telling him all the information she had. However, Lane ignored that. For now anyway. He introduced himself instead.

"Ah, right. I apologize for not introducing myself before now. My name is Lane Logikin and I'm a detective that works here at PPHQ. I've been working here for awhile now. You can trust me I assure you" assured Lane as he took his right hoof and bent it in reverse L-like shape with his right hoof pointing to his left and bowed his head, then, returned to a normal standing position. ((the Miles Edgeworth bow pretty much. lol.))

L.G. cocked her head and looked at Lane with a puzzled expression. "You move kinda funny," she said. She began tapping her chin with her hoof. "Lane Logikin... LanLog? Lanny? I'm calling you Lanny from now on. That okay? You can call me L.G. if you like, to make it fair." She trotted around Lane, stepping closer to his office. "Sorry if I was a bit rough with your pet patrolman, but I didn't know if the pigs in this burgh had been bought off yet. With ol' Chuck in town, you can never be too sure." She began to stare at Lane's desk with great curiosity. "Hey, mind if I poke around in here while we talk about this? Surely you have some unsolved cases lying around here." She turned her head and grinned at Lane hopefully, her body still facing the doorway to his office.

A sweatdrop formed on the back of Lane's head. He didn't like getting a nickname, especially with all of the nicknames Deuces Wylde kept giving him by constantly getting his name wrong. But it was at least better than all of the nicknames Deuces gave him. Without his permission, the pony entered his office and practically began snooping around it. This was a strange pony indeed and Lane began getting the feeling it was about to turn into a long day.

Lane calmly entered his office again and responded to the pony.

"That's fine. It's better than the other nicknames I've gotten anyway. Anyway please don't look through anything without my permission if you don't mind. If everypony was allowed to look through our files and cases none of our cases would be solved because if the wrong pony saw it, they would destroy all the evidence we need to figure out who committed the act in question. However, if your some kind of investigator or detective as well and can prove that to me sufficiently I don't mind you looking through my files. Who is this Chuck anyway?" responded Lane as he finally was able to take a breath after saying all of that to this strange pony that was now snooping around his office to the annoyance of Lane.

"What's with the rough treatment, buddy? Bad day at work, marefriend cheat on you, no donuts left at Sugarcube Corner?"

All Deuces Wylde got in response was a rough shove through the station's doors that sent him to the floor. His day had started off fair enough: a few games of rummy, a few small drinks at the local bar, dragging a very sauced Berry Punch home, getting lost along the way, dealing with her kicking and screaming, attracting the attention of a nearby cop, getting himself hoof-cuffed, and escorted to PPHQ.

'Figures. I try to be a decent stallion, and life finds a way to punish me for it.' he thought as brought himself up. Turning to his right, he spotted an office. The nameplate on the door was very familiar: Lane Logikin. Deuces vaguely recalled their interaction at the recently-opened cafe. If he had an office here, it meant he had some pull...

"LOOGIE, OPEN UP! LOOOOOOOGIEEEEEEE!"

((I don't know if you shut the door but I'm assuming you did.))

Before the other pony could respond back to Lane, he heard a voice. An all too familiar voice. Well, it was more of a shout than a voice. When he heard it, he cringed.

Quote from: Zaal
"LOOGIE, OPEN UP! LOOOOOOOGIEEEEEEE!"

Lane aggressively opened the door to his office once again. He had it with this pony constantly getting his name wrong.

"FOR THE LAST TIME MY NAME IS LANE. LANE!! L-A-N-E!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU DID BUT I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOU RIGHT NOW SO WHATEVER YOU DID WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" shouted Lane as he slammed his office door shut again. He then turned back to the pony he was still talking to.

"I'm sorry you had to see that" remarked Lane.

However, luckily, Lane's chief, Cole Gotem, heard Lane's outburst, it actually caught him by surprise, as Lane usually was one of the few police ponies and detectives that was cool, calm, and collected, and usually kept his cool. He quickly realized it must have been something major if it made Lane go off, so he left his office to see what was going on. When he went to see what was going on, he only got to saw Lane angrily slamming the door to his office. Then he saw something that even made him cringe. It was Deuces Wylde. This was about to become a long day for Cole as well. He approached Deuces.

"What did you do this time?" asked Cole

((Sorry Zaal but Lane is busy so I'm having my NPC handle this. I hope that's okay. lol))

'Geez, he was about as bad as Nightstick over there. There goes my hopes for getting outta here...'

As Lane slammed the door, another presence made himself known: Chief Cole Gotem. The two had met on occasion, usually after Deuces had been caught for gambling.

"What did you do this time?"

"Heya, Colie. How've you been? Believe it or not, this is just a simple misunderstanding. If you could just unlock these cuffs and let me go on my merry way."

"LOOGIE, OPEN UP! LOOOOOOOGIEEEEEEE!"

"OOOOOH! Loogie! Why didn't I think of that one?" she stomped her hoof. "Well... Mine's better anyway."

"FOR THE LAST TIME MY NAME IS LANE. LANE!! L-A-N-E!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU DID BUT I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOU RIGHT NOW SO WHATEVER YOU DID WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

L.G. grinned broadly at Lane's outburst, clapping her hooves in approval. "You tell 'im!" she cheered. "Good to see you can actually get some bass in your voice."

"Aw shucks," she sighed, rubbing the back of her head. "Now I have to look for work the old boring way. And I don't intend to stay here for very long. You got me, Lanny, I'm not a detective in the traditional sense. I'm just a traveler. I've been jumping from town to town for the last ten years trying to find someplace I can call home. Normally I wouldn't have even come to this town; too close to the ivory tower those unicorns in Canterlot hang around in."

"Here's what happened." L.G. began. "I arrived in Appleoosa for the first time a few months ago. I thought it was beautiful. The settlers were so friendly, the pie was delicious, and it felt like the kind of place an Earth Pony could put her hooves up and relax. I hit up the local hangout to grab some cider, and find out that the whole town is dry. No cider. Less to drink than Salt Lick City on a Sunday. I find out some unicorn had cornered the market on Cider in that town. Families couldn't make their own cider because this guy had strong armed the people of Appleoosa."

"You asked who Chuck was? He's Chuck Ponzy. The law can't touch him. He's a con man of the highest order, and I only lost him because I wasn't careful enough in Appleoosa. The cider's safe, but he's on the run trying to find the next big scheme. I need to figure out what he was doing here before I caught him. Now I know I'm not a detective, Lanny, but I get the job done. You're bound to have somepony locked up here who knows how a con man thinks, and I need that pony to help me outwit Chuck."

"The law can't touch him? Don't take this the wrong way but I disagree. The law can touch everypony. It's just a matter of time before he's caught." remarked Lane.

However... that's when Lane broke into a cold sweat. They did have somepony like that, and they had just entered the PPHQ. What was worse, was that he just yelled at him. There was no way he'd agree to talk to him after that.

"Um... we do... unfortunately... it was the pony that I just yelled at. His name's Deuces Wylde. He's not really a con man... he's more of a... gambler. But he may know more about him than I do. Because this is actually the first time I've heard of this 'Chuck Ponzy.' However, I can't allow a criminal to roam free. That's just not who I am. However, now that I've yelled at him, there's no way he'll talk to me now..." informed Lane.

Meanwhile... Deuces had responded to Cole's presence.

"Nice try but that's not going to work. You were obviously brought in here for some reason. Now what was it? If you answer honestly I might be willing to let you go with nothing but a simple warning" replied Cole

"Well, I was enjoying some of my latest successes at the local bar. During my time there, I ran into this mare called Berry Punch. We shared a few stories and she kept buying more drinks. When I told her she'd had enough, she swore at me and fell to the floor unconcious. Out of pity, I put her on my back and asked some of the locals for directions to her home. I took a wrong turn somewhere, she woke up and, still in her drunken stupor, began resisting. Now, I can understand your officers jumping to conclusions upon seeing a known criminal carrying a kicking and screaming mare on their back, but a little context would've saved us a lot of trouble."
