With the evidence, and my addiction to the Ace Attorney series, I do have a theory as to who may have done it. But I won't say what my theory is. Just in case.

Besides, I'm probably wrong anyway.

I am really enjoying Turnabout Storm.  That twist at the end of part 2 felt exactly like something I'd expect from a normal Ace Attorney case.

Of course, there's a blindingly obvious suspect to it all we've yet to see, but I have a feeling that it's little more than a red herring.

I may not know who did it, but after watching part two, I've came up with my own theory as to what happened. I'll put it in a spoiler tag so you don't have to read it if you don't want to:

My Theory:

In accordance to Fluttershy's story, Rainbow Dash fled the scene of the crime at high speed as if she was being chased. THis here prooves that Rainbow Dash was in the Everfree forest at the time, the first lightning struck, as she heard it, and was scared. Applebloom's story also prooves that the lightning strike accurd at the exact time listed in the "Cloud Balistic report" evidence. Okay, that was established through the second part, but it is important to my theory.

Now, why was Ace Swift in the Everfree forest, knowing that it is dark and dangerous in there. There are two possiblities, but I find the following more plossible: Ace Swift wanted to train, and what better way to dodge trees, than do it at night, in a dark forest, where you have to rely on your other senses to guide you. Easy as pie, for an explanation.

Missing Cloud Report: That's simple, Ditzy Doo was helping, and knowing that she has a hard time with determing directions, instead of moving that one cloud to the east of Ponyville, she put it to the west, just so happen to be at the clearing in the everfree forest.

Why Rainbow Dash was at the crime scene: Throughout the day after reading the missing cloud report from one of the other pegasus pony that helped, Rainbow Dash spent all day looking for it, to no avail. The later at night, she remembered that Ditzy disappeared for awhile, and determined that she might have stuck it in the west. She goes looking for it in the Everfree forest.

What Happened with Ace Swift: Now everything has been lined up, and ready to go wrong, and here's what happens. Rainbow Dash zooms into the Everfree forest looking for the cloud. As time goes by, she get's tired, and it gets harder and harder to see. Knowing there is a clearing under her, she decided to land and rest her wings before setting out to search again. Upon decending, she lands too hard on the missing cloud not knowing it was there. After the lightning strike, she hears Ace Swift still alive, and Rainbow Dash says she'll get him help, and quickly flies home to call for help.

The Unknown Feather: The reason for the unknown feather, is like Fluttershy said, she was feeding the animals when she heard the lightning strike. Not only did it scare her, but also one of the zoo animals from Fillydalphia, and the cage was unlocked as Fluttershy hadn't closed them in for the night. The animal then flies into the Everfree forest, and Fluttershy not wanting to look like a bad animal caretaker, goes after it, and leaves that part out of her testimony. Upon catching the animal, Fluttershy bumps into the cloud that is still there, causing a second bolt of lighting to go off, but instead of hitting the ground, it hits the metal ring around the zoo animal's leg. As Trixie proclaimed, lightning only makes a sound when it hits the ground; but it didn't, so all it did was create a bright light. The metal piece fell off the bird, and in a rush, Fluttershy flew back to her home, animal in hoof. One of the animal's feather fell of in the hurry as well.

Why Rainbow Dash was blaimed: If Rainbow Dash called for help, why was she blaimed? Well, somepony forgot to record the conversation like they are supposed to (the police, fire department, hospital, and 911 service, are all supposed to record calls for emergencies), and thus, they didn't have record of Rainbow Dash calling in for help, making ponies believe she is lying about that fact.

Anonymos tip: Okay, the anonymos tip rules out Dizty as the reason for the missing cloud. Which right there makes it a set up. The pony framing Rainbow Dash, must know that Ace Swift uses the Everfree forest to train, and knew that Rainbow Dash would go looking for the cloud if she thought Ditzy was the reason for it's disappearance. So Ditzy's disappearance ment she was gone for another reason, while Rainbow Dash thought it was her who moved the cloud to the wrong spot.

The anonymos tipster, must also know the exact place Ace Swift trains in while in the Everfree forest, and knew that Rainbow Dash would use that same clearing to rest her wings. which means it is the anonymos tipster is the true culprit, but the question is, who is the one who gave the tip now?

I believe it was Trixie, wanting to humiliate Twilight and her friends by framing one of them for murder. She could have easily made Ditzy move the cloud over to Everfree forest (or moved it herself if you can move clouds through magic...), and as such made Derpy disappear long enough for Rainbow Dash to suspect her of putting the cloud in the wrong place. However, the problem here is, does Trixie know of Ditzy's navigational problem? If not, then it is another Pony who wanted revenge on Rainbow Dash, and know's Ditzy from somewhere, like Cloudsdale, who also wants Ace Swift out of the Equestrian 500 to level the playing field, and Rainbow Dash out of the way to give him/her, a higher chance of winning.

This is what I think.

1. (It's believed that the feather points to Gilda being the murder because she had a history with Rainbow Dash) Gilda is not involved with this murder.

Reason: It's been shown that the writers are not afraid to use original characters when they have too. For example, Ace Swift is an original character. Meaning that we will meet more original character(s) in the next episode. Also, Gilda would take a more direct route than come up with a plan like this.

2. (It's believed that Trixie is trying to get back at Twilight by framing Rainbow Dash. Also, it's believed that Trixie murdered Ace Swift) Trixie is not involved with this murder.

Reason: Trixie is not a Killer. Killing would result in being caught, and being banished. As you can guess, it would be hard for anyone to see your magical abilities if you are banished to the sun. Also, Trixie wouldn't go about framing someone because it would just be easier to put a pony in jail (banished in this case), then it would be to come up with a complex crime that could result in her being sent to jail (banished in this case).

3. Ace Swift was NOT wearing his electrical protection suit at the time he was murdered.

Reason: Applebloom explains that she was scared by lighting at 8:40pm. The believed time of the murder. Eventually, she comes across some one with fur (She said she felt fur) and they are breathing heavily. Now, what if that was Ace Swift? If that was, then why did Applebloom feel fur? Why didn't she feel the electrical projection suit? That's because he wasn't wearing it at the time. If that's the case, then that means the suit was put on AFTER he was killed.

Also, why would he wear his suit in the first place? It seems odd that he would wear it.  What reason would Ace Swift wear his suit at this time at night, and when he is having a meeting with Rainbow Dash?

4. The blinding light came from a Unicorn.

Reason: Applebloom states she saw light that blinded her and it prevent her from opening up her eyes. Eventually, she was able to, and she was outside the forest. Notice a problem? If it was some creature with wings, then why didn't she mention the wind going across her face when she was in the air, or the fact that she was not touching the ground. Those are things that anypony would remember. Also, why couldn't Applebloom open up her eyes? The reason is that a Unicorn used magic to prevent Applebloom from opening her eyes. The Unicorn teleported Applebloom out of the forest because she had to walked into a murder scene, and Unicorn was not ordered to do anything about Applebloom. Also, she used the light to blind her, so most people would just believe that it was some animal in the forest. 

5. The being behind this hates Dash because this being was pranked by her, or it was because the being feared that Rainbow Dash would beat her in the race. Also, the being is trying to get rid of Ace Swift, so the being has a better chance in the race.

Reason: It's clear to me that there has to be another being involved in this case. We know that Rainbow Dash didn't do it, and Ace Swift couldn't have been the one to set off the cloud. For the simple reason that his hoof prints would be on it. Unfortunately, I have no explanation as to why the Cloud wasn't where it was suppose to be. My only guess is that Rainbow Dash was given a fake schedule to move the Cloud over Everfree forest. During so would deliver the weapon WITHOUT anypony drawing attention to it, because all other ponies would just see Rainbow Dash during her job. It seems strange, but Ace Swift was able to get his hooves on some embarrassing pictures of Rainbow Dash. So, maybe he; or someone else, was able to plant the fake schedule.
This doesn't cancel out my theory that a Unicorn was there. It's possible that the Unicorn was hired to kill Ace and frame Rainbow Dash.

6. (It's believed that the metal was a medal) The metal is not a medal.

Reason: Same reason as number 3. Why would anyone wear a medal to a meeting? It just seems odd.  It's like if Rainbow Dash wore her element of loyalty to go meet Ace. However, even though I don't know where the metal came from, I do believe it's where the second lightening bolt went. I believe this to be the case because in this world lightening only makes a noise when it hits the ground. If that is true, then the metal might have absorbed the lightening bolt, and prevent any sound from being produced because the lightening didn't hit the ground.

7.  (Guess of what will happen) Scootaloo will lie under oath in order to protect Rainbow Dash.

Reason: Scootaloo is a HUGE fan of Rainbow Dash. Meaning that Scootaloo would not want anything to happen to her, so she will lie to try and protect her. Too bad for her, Phoenix Wright will see right though her testimony.  This will lead to Scootaloo breaking down in tears, she will start to run her mouth. In those rambles, Phoenix Wright would found something that he believes to be vital to the case. Evenutally, this will lead to Rainbow Dash getting off the hook.

8. The second lighting bolt will turn this case on its head.

Reason: Ace Attorney games will usually have something that will cause everything we thought we knew to be false. I believe that the timing of the second lighting bolt plus where it disappeared too will change everything.

9. (The ninth guess is here to bring up an idea that many have. I don't really believe this to be the case.) A Griffon is behind the murder of Ace Swift and the framing of Rainbow Dash.

Reason: We know there is a feather that can't be explained. Most believe it is Gilda, or at least a Griffon behind this. If this is from a Griffon, then why did it fall off the Griffon? My guess is that a Griffon was wearing metal at the time. Let's just say this was a medal. Just like another theory that many people believe. Although, in this case, the Griffon wore it was he/she is very arrogant and wants everyone to know about his/her achievements. Now what happen was that the Griffon set off the cloud (we are assuming that a Griffon can do this at this point) that killed Ace. Then she wiped away her markings. She flew away, but was hit by the lightening coming from the cloud; however, she survived because the medal took most of it. However, some of the lightening still went though, and she lost her feather due to the lightening. Applebloom just happen to found some creature in the forst the glowed, and she left the forest her own. Rainbow Dash left very quickly because she didn't went to be around Ace anymore.

  Those are my thoughts. Eight there I believe, and a ninth one that is there to try and follow what some believe. (Although, in some theories, Trixie is involved too).  There are some that aren't about what happen, but it's interesting to think about what WILL happen.

Anyway, what flaws in my logic do you see, and what theories do you have?

This and Trixie is a coward when it comes to serious business. She's just not capable of doing something that goes beyond tricks.

Now here I have some questions about your reasoning. First: Apple Bloom also stated that this thing she bumped into "Jumped a bit". And as we know Ace Swift was dying at the time, so he was already weak. I don't believe that he would have strength to even stand up in full height, let alone jump.
Second: we'll just have to wait for the next part to learn more about the suit. It must be pretty easy to confirm if he was wearing it or not: even if the suit protects from lightnings it would still have some burn marks after the lightning hit.

Your reasoning for light source and Apple Bloom's escape is nice, but there is one little problem: how could a Unicorn set off the cloud? Magic makes the horn glow so Ace would probably notice it. Also the spell is certainly not an easy one so it would take some time to cast. Even if we consider Ace was blinded a little he would still move from "directly under the cloud" position.

5. The being behind this hates Dash because this being was pranked by her, or it was because the being feared that Rainbow Dash would beat her in the race. Also, the being is trying to get rid of Ace Swift, so the being has a better chance in the race.

Now, I will agree with the basic idea about another racer behind this. However I have a question about your guess for why the cloud was in the Everfree forest. Rainbow Dash may be a bit of an airhead, but she's definitely NOT stupid. If she received an order to move the cloud into the place, where pegasi don't control the weather she would suspect something for sure.

Furthermore, I have a theory about what metal really is. However, I won't reveal all the details for now as we need to establish killer's race first. Only one thing: it was a device to hold Ace in the spot under the cloud.

This theory is one big flaw.
1) Griffons draw too much attention. If a griffon went flying to Everfree forest there would be a witness and the griffon would be questioned on top priority.
2) A random griffon (not Gilda) has absolutely no reason to murder Ace and frame Rainbow. It's unlikely that they are allowed to enter the Equestrian 500 race.
3) Feather: either it doesn't belong to griffon or Twilight fell behind in her studies. Twilight saw a griffon before, and no doubt she read a lot about them, enough to recognize a griffon's feather.

Your theory doesn't explain the time contradiction. Did Apple Bloom leave the forest at 9:00 PM or at 8:50 PM? If first then why didn't Fluttershy see her, if second then what was she doing for 20 minutes, when she only needs 10? Or maybe it was entirely different time?

3)  Ace was looking for a weak link in Rainbow's confidence, and learned about the falling out Rainbow and Gilda had.  Gilda, being a childhood friend of Rainbow, would likely have some dirt on Rainbow that he could take advantage of.

4)  He contacted Gilda, and made a deal of some sort with her to get the photos that were eventually spread around at the end of the episode, and they met in the forest to exchange the photos, and Gilda left.  I don't see Gilda's involvement being any deeper than this.  I know about the griffon attracting attention and all, but it wouldn't be impossible for her to get in and out of that forest unseen by Ponyvillians if she really wanted to.

5)  He had already contacted Rainbow, and told her what he was going to have in the embarrassing photos, and that if she agreed to take a dive or drop out of the race, he wouldn't reveal those photos to everyone.

Given that scenario, it is also possible that the real cause of death isn't the lightning at all, however probable it is.  There is a chance that Ace was already dying, or at least severely injured from some other force, and hitting him with lightning using the makeshift lightning rod was simply a cover up, or just a finishing blow.

As for the who, I'm going to assume that it's another racer we haven't met, one that's being blackmailed by Ace, or one that's tired of getting outperformed.  The other pony just happened to see an opportunity to get rid of Ace and took it.  Rainbow just happened to be an unintended victim in all of this.

On a side note, there are at least two more OC ponies, as I recall from his last casting call.  I only recall that one of them was named Cruise Control.  I look forward to being wrong on all accounts, too.

They only said she was found at home, never saying that she was asleep. If you note how they do it here, they have you stay on the line until officers get there. So the same could have happened to RD, which is why she was found at her house.

Opps, that was jumping to a conclusion that she was asleep. I was reading the line like she was in bed at the time.

However, I don't believe there are any phones in Equestria. Having phones just seems to make Equestria too modern. It's just something that I find too hard to accept. I mean, yes, the technology of Equestria is all over the place so they COULD have phones. However, that leads into a simply problem. Couldn't the person who took the message testify in court, or at least some record of someone calling? There are ways to found out where a call came from.

I read the line "Jumped a bit" to mean that Ace Swift was "Startled". Not that he really jumped.

Ace Swift would have all ready been hit by the lightening, and would have been too injured to move quickly away. That is If that is what happened.

I do agree that Rainbow Dash isn't stupid; she would have known. I was just thinking back to something that happened in the Ace Attorney Series. For example, case 1-5 of original game where Miles Edgeworth delivered an item without him knowing about it. He also isn't stupid. I'm only happy about it because it sounds clever, but it is shaky at best.

I know. I will to create a time line to help me. So, I think a time line is in order. Who wants to make one?
