Applications are now closed!

…Well, technically speaking they’ve been closed for about a day now and I’m only just now posting about it, but who’s counting?

I’d just like to say one thing to everyone who’s applied so far: wow. I don’t know what I was expecting, but I don’t think I was remotely expecting a turnout this large. To give a brief summary, over the course of the past month, we’ve received applications from ninety unique individuals, and have received over 360 MB of material that applicants have provided for us to look through or listen to. Those are… pretty big numbers, let me tell you.

Unfortunately, that also means that we have a rather larger number of applicants than there are positions, which means that the next step is the unfortunately necessary process of identifying those candidates who’d be a good fit for Equestrian Dreamers. That’ll be happening over the course of this week. Before decisions are made, though, I just wanted to make one thing clear in advance: those who aren’t selected should categorically not take that as an indication or a suggestion that their work isn’t good enough or anything like that. There are a lot of tough decisions in here, and a good portion of the decision rests not so much on absolute quality but rather appropriateness – i.e., how much the style of what applicants have presented matches that which has been pictured for MLI. Every and every one of you who submitted something is awesome, and I have no doubt that those who aren’t picked will certainly find many other opportunities down the road. There’s a lot of awesome stuff in here.

I also additionally have to apologize for having not sent individual responses to everyone who sent in applications – I would’ve liked to, but given the sheer number of applications we’ve gotten, that just wasn’t feasible. I will hopefully be getting around to responding to people who requested a response about their performance, though, once final decisions are made regarding recruitment. Sincere apologies to those who specifically asked for one and haven’t yet received one; I feel quite bad about having not answered them to date.

Thanks again to everyone for your amazing support thus far. We’ll have more info for you very soon.

  1. Wow i love to see that you got a ton of applications!
i really hope the best for this game i know that whoever you pick their going to be the perfect match for your game.

  2. Actually, I’d say you can only find good stuff in a lot of applications! This-a-ways, you have the ability to sift through and find the best quality of a voice you can, rather than being stuck with whatever you got, eh?

I’m very much looking forward to the team! Assuming there will be multiple episodes to the game, you’d be putting out voice acting applications for the next puzzle as well, right?

    • We will definitely be doing another recruitment call for Case 2 and beyond for more voice actors as we will have different roles to fill at those times. Plus, we also plan to have a call for game testers when Case 1 has been developed enough for testing.

There’s still plenty of ways the community can help out with this project, even if they are not part of the development team. More info on that very soon.

I also like to personally thank everypony for sending in their submissions. It was very enjoyable and uplifting to see so much support for this project. Believe me, it was VERY hard to choose people for most of our positions. But, I believe Gabu and I made the correct decisions. I hope you all will feel the same when they are announced sometime this week. Thanks again! 😀

  3. Great to hear you got so many applicants, it bodes well for your project.
I’m slightly curious as to which positions were most contested for, I imagine many male voice actors were glad to to see multiple possible parts considering how scarce male characters are in the show.

    • The positions that we had the most trouble selecting for were the VA”s for each of the Diamond Dogs (There was like 20+ potential people for those roles) and the Dialogue Character Artist position. The rest pretty much had a standout audition or simply didn’t have enough to choose from, like Sweetie Belle and The Mayor.

And trust me, we will definitely be looking for more male voice actors when the proper time comes. I’m afraid I can’t say much more than that for fear of spoilers. 😉

  4. I am glad for you that people are willing to help, it really shows what this fandom is capable of. I wish you best of luck in picking the best to help move this whole project closer to finish line for all of us to enjoy.
